Itinerary

Day 1 | 😴 Farmhouse-auberge | 🥾 15km | 450m D+ (450ft)

We meet at 8.45am in front of the hostel at the foot of the Hohneck: welcome, presentation of the group and the weekend.

After this introduction to the expedition, we'll set off, snowshoes on, to walk off the beaten track: a no man's land on the great ridge of the Vosges towards Markstein, passing all the most beautiful peaks in the High Vosges: Rainkopf (1305m), Rothenbachkopf (1316m), Col du Herrenberg, Schweisel, Col du Hanenbrunnen and Breitfirst (1279m).

Afterwards, we'll head back down to the refuge to settle in and enjoy a good meal together.

Day 2 | 🥾 15km | 450m D+ (450m + climb)

After a hearty breakfast, we'll head back to the ridges of the snow-capped Vosges mountains.

We'll return to our starting point via a quiet, isolated route sheltered from the wind.

The only thing we come across on the way is a picnic shelter in case of bad weather.

Finally, at around 4.45pm, we'll finish the expedition where we started: at the foot of the Hohneck.

What level should you expect

Level 2

This expedition is suitable for anyone wanting to enjoy snowshoe trekking during a short 2-day stay:

You want to unwind in a natural and relaxing winter setting.
You want to go snowshoeing for a short 2-day stay.
You're capable of walking 20km a day with a D+ of 600m a day.
No previous snowshoeing experience is required.

10% for equipment and transport : The safety and comfort of our participants is paramount. Thanks to this part of the total amount, we can guarantee that the equipment required is in excellent condition and adequate for each activity. Transport costs also come into play when they are essential during an expedition.
25% for participation and operating costs of the expedition : These costs cover the logistical, administrative and organisational aspects of the expedition, as well as the overall management of the experience from start to finish.

Do I need to have done snowshoe trekking before?

No, but you do need to be able to walk 20km a day for two days with a 600m climb.

Are dogs welcome on this expedition?

Despite our immense love of dogs at DiscoveRent, dogs are not allowed in the area where we are conducting this expedition.

What should you do if there's no snow for snowshoeing?

When snow is scarce and conditions don't allow snowshoeing, your expedition will be transformed into a magnificent hike that retains all its charm, offering the chance to discover other greener but equally captivating landscapes.
